Abstract: Thermal ablation, as an effective treatment method, has been applied in some thyroid diseases. However, there is still significant controversy both domestically and internationally regarding its indications. In recent years, multiple international academic organizations have successively released consensus, statements, and guidelines on thyroid thermal ablation therapy. Domestically, in 2018, the Interventional Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, in conjunction with other relevant academic organizations, released the "Expert Consensus on Thermal Ablation Therapy for Benign Thyroid Nodules, Microcarcinomas, and Cervical Metastatic Lymph Nodes (2018 Edition)". After the consensus was released, it has been widely recognized by the industry and effectively standardized the thermal ablation treatment of thyroid diseases in China. With the continuous accumulation of evidence-based medicine evidence, in order to further strictly regulate the application of thermal ablation technology in thyroid diseases, the Ultrasound Intervention Professional Committee of the Interventional Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, together with multiple relevant academic organizations and experts, has held multiple seminars. After repeated revisions, the "Multidisciplinary Expert Consensus on Thermal Ablation Treatment of Benign Thyroid Diseases, Low risk Thyroid Cancer, and Cervical Metastatic Lymph Nodes (2025 Edition)" has been formulated. On the basis of inheriting the 2018 framework, this new version of the consensus optimizes indications and contraindications, emphasizes standardized treatment, and looks forward to the future development direction of research and clinical application of thyroid thermal ablation technology.

The wisdom crystallization of multidisciplinary collaboration

The Multidisciplinary Expert Consensus on Thermal Ablation Therapy for Benign Thyroid Diseases, Low Risk Thyroid Cancer, and Cervical Metastatic Lymph Nodes (2025 Edition) was jointly developed by the Ultrasound Intervention Professional Committee of the Interventional Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the Tumor Ablation Therapy Professional Committee of the Interventional Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the Tumor Ablation Therapy Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti Cancer Association, and the Tumor Ablation Therapy Expert Committee of the Chinese Clinical Oncology Society. The consensus has gathered nearly a hundred authoritative experts from multiple disciplines such as surgery, intervention, ultrasound, endocrinology, oncology, pathology, and nuclear medicine, and has been revised and discussed multiple times.
